Foxconn India which is already producing a number of models for various mobile phone brands, including Xiaomi at Sri City of Andhra Pradesh promised to produce two million handsets a year and employ about 2,000 people, mostly women.
The capacity expansion seems faster than what was originally indicated to the government as Foxconn already saw 2,500 people working at the facility. The existing facility is being doubled and the Taiwanese company is in talks with the government regarding this.
The company today signed one more MoU with the state government at the ongoing CII Partnership Summit in Vishakapatnam. This is for manufacturing tablets & e-readers. It will generate over 10,000 jobs in the next 6 months. This new facility is also expected to come up at Sri City.
