In an unexpected crackdown, the income tax investigators raided the properties of India's largest healthcare chain, Apollo Hospitals Group, in Chennai today. As per the reports by several national media houses, the investigations started in the morning in all the corporate offices and some properties of the group.
More details regarding the intensity of the raids and details about tax violations are yet unknown. The searches were carried until late evening and may take more time, say the reports. The Apollo Hospitals group was began by noted cardiologist Prathap C Reddy 30 years ago.
Since then, Apollo Hospitals group has been one of the pioneers in healthcare and until September, 2015 Apollo Hospitals ran 64 hospitals across the country with over 8,900 beds. Popular film star Ram Charan is married to Upasna Kamineni, the granddaughter of Prathap Reddy and Vice President of Apollo Charity.
