In a major jolt, the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has reportedly cancelled the licenses of four channels of Maa TV group. Pointing out that the group was floated by Nimmagadda Prasad who is one of the prime accused in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's Disproportionate Assets case, the licenses are denied as per the rules of Uplink, Downlink of I&B Ministry which won't support accused in criminal cases having the ownership of broadcasting channels. Although the channels were Nimmagadda Prasad is still acting as the Director for the group this is said to be why the trouble has come. The Home department's security has turned down the clearance for the channels owned by the group.
With this, the four channels of the Maa TV Network would be affected. The licences of Maa TV, Maa Music, Maa Movies, Maa Gold are cancelled and removed from the latest list of broadcasting channels bearing government licences, as per TV reports. However, experts say there won't be any major issue to the running of channels and its employees as the channels have been sold to Star India. But the home department may consider revoke only after the dissociation of Nimmagadda from the channel's management.
Nimmagadda Prasad, popularly known as Matrix Prasad in industrial circles is 12th accused in Jagan's DA case and was even jailed. Prasad has been charged with cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and falsification of accounts.
