The much awaited and much expected match has finally ended on a disappointed note. PV Sindhu went down fighting in the final of the women's badminton singles at the Rio Olympics. She lost 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 to world No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain. Sindhu however has clinched a silver medal for India.
Sindhu was the underdog in the final match as she was pitted against the world No.1 The contest was an exhilarating one as Sindhu continued to fight hard and make Carolina work hard to earn the points. The World No.1 has finally managed to breach the firm resistance of Sindhu and won the Gold Medal for her country.
The first game was a neck to neck one. From 16-19, Sindhu won 5 successive points to take the first game 21-19. But, the world No.1 came back strong and took the second game 21-12 with strong net game and clever array of shots. The final game was also competitive with scores at 11-10 at half time. Carolina however proved to be a tough nut to crack in the second half and took the game 21-15.
