Vikram's Thandavam was released in Tamilnadu last week and has received mixed reviews. Dubbed version of Thandavam released today in Telugu as Shiva Thandavam. Here is the review of it.

What is it about?

RAW officer Siva Kumar (Vikram) investigates a terrorist activity and comes to London following a clue. But he learns that he is framed by his colleagues. Before he reacts his wife Meenakshi (Anushka) gets killed in a bomb blast and Siva Kumar loses his eye sight in the same incident. He avenges his wife's death and kills all the people who are involved in it.

Performances:

Vikram has done a brilliant job as an actor. He is at his best in the scenes where he acts as a blind man. He also excelled in the scenes where is silently loves Anushka. Jagapathi Babu is fine in a brief yet important role. Anushka is gorgeous as ever and she delivered a decent performance as a workaholic. Amy Jackson is cute and Lakshmi Rai has done an important character. Her performance is good.

Santhanam's character was intended to be funny. Nasser is neat as the police officer. All others are apt in their respective roles.

On the Technical Front:

Dialogues are bad. Unnecessary usage of bookish Telugu didn't help the cause. The makers tried to replace every Tamil board with Telugu and have put in efforts to run subtitles in certain scenes. But when it comes to dialogue all their efforts have gone wasted due to the dubbing feel all over it.

Music by GV Prakash is passable. There a couple of good melodies. Background score is good. Editing is fine. Cinematography is great. Director made sure that the film is technically rich, but he has failed in all the departments that he has handled. Weak script is the biggest minus point of this film.

Analysis:

Shiva Tandavam starts off in an interesting manner by creating curiosity in the viewer. However, slow proceedings don't engage much. Logic has gone for a walk and it is hard to believe that a blind man can do so many murders without leaving a clue.

Second half is better as the real reason for the protagonist's revenge gets revealed. There are few good moments in the second hour and again climax is a damp squib. Screenplay is weak as all the characters not developed properly.

Same story could have been better had the director opted for a racy screenplay. Instead he chose it to be stylish and slow. That didn't work for this film as the movie dragged right from the start. Vikram's performance and rich production values are the only saving grace for this film.

Our audience expects something special and spectacular from Vikram movies. Films like Shiva Thandavam don't work here as that wow factor is completely missing. This film will be gone before you notice. Better luck next time Vikram!

Verdict: Watch Shiva Thandavam to know how good your WATCH is working!
