Remember the encounter that happened in Seshachalam forest last year in which 20 smugglers were killed. They belong to Tamil Nadu and started pelting stones on the forest officials and Police. Similar thing happened this morning once again in the forest.
Few smugglers from Tamil Nadu were busy cutting down the trees when the Special Task force arrived at the scene. They started pelting stones once again but the Task force kept their cool. They fired couple of rounds in air and the smugglers escaped from the area. The Task force managed to arrest couple of them and also seized 25 Red Sanders logs.
It is estimated that more than 50000 Crore worth Red Sanders were smuggled out of the state in the last 10 years. Under Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh government has taken the Red Sandal Smuggling very seriously. A special task force was formed to deal with the smugglers and several 100s of Crores of smuggled wood is recovered so far by them.
