Telangana government is gearing up to clear decks to raze down heritage buildings in Hyderabad. There are certain laws which are coming in the way to raze down heritage buildings which are depleted. The government is planning to amend this clause now.
Osmania hospital building, Erragadda Chest Hospital were earlier supposed to get demolished by the Telangana government but could not due to the legal implications. The Metro Rail Project is also getting delayed due to some heritage buildings coming in the way.
This move is likely to become controversial as it will prompt governments not to concentrate on preservation of heritage buildings but it will lead to move neglect as the more they get depleted, it is easy to demolish them using this new clause. There are 160 heritage buildings in Hyderabad and about 75% of them belongs to private persons.
