Andhra Pradesh government is ambitious to make use of the state’s 974 km long coastline by developing a strong inland waterway system that is linked to ports through national highways. Currently Gujarat is in the number one in this aspect and AP is targeting to knock it off in near future.
Inspired by China’s One Belt One Road model, the state is planning to develop new ports through Public Private Partnership and also set up port-based industries along the coastal corridor. The state government is also looking to set up a Maritime Board with the target of overtaking Gujarat in cargo handling in the next four years.
The state enjoys the advantage of being on the East Coast and is targeting to derieve business from progressive south eastern nations. So the focus is on development of port-based infrastructure and industries will help the state emerge as a logistics and cargo hub.
