Union HRD Minister, Smriti Irani hogged the limelight across the nation with his emotional speech on the recent ruckus over Rohit Vemula’s suicide and JNU controversy. The former TV artist overtook top Bollywood heroines as far as online search interest is concerned, a day after the speech.
According to the data available with Google search trends, the number of people were searching for information about Smriti Irani are thrice more than those searching for Katrina Kaif, who has been the most-searched celebrity in India for many years in a row. The usual second rank heroine, Deepika Padukone is also no match to Smriti Irani that day.
In fact, she even crossed her mentor and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi generating twenty times more search volume compared to the prime minister. On a per day basis, the number of searches on the minister equaled the peak daily volume of searches on Modi at the time of last year’s general election.
